Abstract

The author analises the existence and regulation of mining technicians through several laws: Ordenanzas del Nuevo Cuaderno, 1584; Ordenanzas del Pení, 1683; Ordenanzas de Huidobro, 1755 and Ordenanzas de Minas de Nueva España, which werw promulgated for Chile in 1787. He refers to the anxiety of the Borbon administration towards the development of minery. The central part of this study is given by two letters, dated in 1844, from the polish savant Ignacio Domeyko to the minister of public instruction Manuel Montt, in which he designs the juridical regulation of mine technicians. The steps that the chilean govemment followed through the fifties of the xixth century, were, mainly, a consequence of the scope due to Domeyko. It provoked the creation of the careers of mining engineer and ensayador in 1853, whose development is traced by the author.
