The substantiality of the Belém do Pará Convention to overcome structural discrimination and gender-based violence against women

Abstract

This paper analyzes the contribution and progress produced by the Belém do Pará Convention as an instrument of international human rights law in terms of fostering the respect of these rights for women and in overcoming the violation of women’s rights. Based on this, will highlight the contribution that this instrument has made to the creation of a regulatory framework and the development of standards in the area of women’s human rights, which have become a common legal body in the Inter-American Human Rights System, which can and should be accepted by the States belonging to the
regional human rights system.
